A storytelling quality, as well as short pieces of history on each page, will make this appealing to anyone looking to know more about the Civil Rights era. I also appreciated the number of characters described, both white and black, because they comprise the very intricate and dynamic context which produced Jones's mindset, so analagous to the context which Americans find themselves in our time. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding of railsea. He does not denigrate or defend bullfighting but rightly observes that much like personal religious beliefs it is something that is either formed into a person as something of value without the benefit of logic or it is not. He is drawn near by their babble, and swept away by a tree. Whatever the tone of the moment ideas flowed like good wine pass the three people to me.
First of all, I am savoring this book, so I cannot read it rapidly and then scribble out some comments. I am only on page 107, but every page from page one on meets and exceeds my expectations. Michael has a chance to apply to a prestigious magnet school and must decide what is more important, his future or attending his current high school for his senior year. I enjoyed the pictures and loved the plot of the book. Elizabeth has a very descriptive writing style, a fascinating cast, great knowledge of many subjects, and a wonderful ability to write about them realistically and convincingly. Not according to Georgia Sinclaire.
